How to make an access application
Before making a Right to Information (RTI) or Information Privacy (IP) access application, check to see if the information is already available.
If you need to make an access application, you can seek access through one of the following options:

Fees and charges
There is no application fee or processing charge for IP applications, but you may be charged for access to documents (Note: there are no access charges for documents provided by email or on CD/DVD).
RTI applications must be accompanied by an application fee to the department. This fee cannot be waived.
In addition to the RTI access application fee, you may be charged for:
- processing (if your application takes longer than five hours to process); and
- access to documents (no access charges if documents are provided by email or on CD/DVD).
Processing and/or access charges may be waived in certain circumstances.
Our fees and charges increase on 1 July each year. On 1 July 2023 our fees and charges were increased by 3.4% in line with government’s indexation policy. You can contact us to find out details about specific fees, charges or prices.

Amending personal details in documents
Under the Information Privacy Act 2009, you may apply to amend documents containing personal information where you believe that the relevant information is inaccurate, misleading, out of date or incomplete. While there is no application fee, evidence of identity must be provided.
